The Vivacity Smart Flash Point Hard Wired Stud Lights are an LED pavement marker or “cats-eye” designed to be activated by in-ground loops, cameras or other sensors in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), which activate the lights when an event occurs.

For example, the smart lights can be used to alert drivers to the presence of a bicycle rider in a lane approaching a high risk intersection, or that a rider is approaching a road crossing from a path, by positioning a sensor on the path or lane. They can be installed on bike lanes, bike paths, shared-user paths, zebra crossings and pedestrian crossings where a sensor detects a motion event that requires the lights to be activated;

• activate flashing lights along a high-risk bike lane, when a rider is approaching an intersection to remind drivers to look and giveway to riders
• increase visibility of pedestrian crossings, with the smart lights across the crossing synchronised with the flashing yellow zebra crossing lights
• where a bike path crosses a GIVEWAY protected road crossing, activate the smart lights when a rider is detected approaching the crossing but still out of sight of drivers.

The lights are hard-wired mains powered, requiring a control box connected to mains power and sensors, then underground low-voltage wires to each light. Mains-powered LED lights are brighter than battery-only and solar-battery LED stud lights and pavement markers, particularly during the day. The control box enables the colour, flash rate, brightness and timing of the lights to be set for day and night.

The lights are designed so that their interior can be removed for maintenance from the surface, if required.
